Goals and Objectives

Long term

• Establishing units and teams

Major goal is to divide each city into different territorial units having various sub‐divisions in the city so we can set ourselves realistic and achievable goals. Team heads will coordinate weekly activities in their respective areas for different cleaning and fundraising projects and various other initiatives.

• Networking

Making contacts in these sub‐divisions and appointing a leader in each of these subdivisions who can take up the responsibility of ensuring that the goals we’ve set out for that area are achieved. Establishing links with district officers and other officials to initiate and implement solid and long lasting change. Df

• Awareness

The leaders will also inculcate a basic sense of civic responsibility in the residents and volunteer workers of the area. Awareness will be given on different subjects and social issues that are brought to attention. Events and learning programs shall be introduced to the citizens from all kinds of backgrounds so that all people can interact on common matters and have social dialogue. The aim of Responsible Citizens is to make the community aware, and catalyze their own realization of responsibility. Once citizens are aware and responsible, then communities can be effectively mobilized for positive social change.

• Fact Finding

Once the relevant subdivisions are set up, a fact finding mission will be set up to ascertain what exactly is required in different areas; resources such as books, clothes, waste management systems etc, and then we shall plan accordingly. The facts and figures shall be organized in the form of database for different districts and their respective needs.

• Recycling Projects

Approaching investors and other sources for setting up facilities for recycling items.

Introducing creative solutions for setting up organized spaces where the separated items could be collected. Encouraging people’s participation in the recycling process is also included and will be suited to circumstantial applications. This could also be a beginning of a new industry and create more jobs for the unemployed.

• Environmental and Social Reforms

Involve the teams in projects which bring about change in the environment and society. Promoting energy efficiency and renewable forms of energy. Taking new

ideas to the ministry and helping them implement such ideas through providing volunteer workers and cost effective solutions. Social reforms include voter awareness and registration programs, and advocacy on environmental issues and social mobilization issues in Pakistan.

Short Term

• Community cleaning projects in all cities to gather citizens of the areas and develop a sense of responsibility in them.

• Recognition of the Responsible Citizens – Zimmedar Shehri teams in the cities and districts. Creating an environment that encourages people to join at will.

• Volunteering to spread awareness in rural areas on hygiene matters and cleaning the environment.

• Engaging children and youth in cleaning activities such as our current project “Take out the Trash”.

• Educating the common man about simple things in life that make it worth living.

• Awarding citizens with badges and shirts to be members.

• Engaging with the youth and offering them a positive and constructive environment

to help make Pakistan a better place.

FUNCTIONAL STRATEGY

Responsible Citizens – Zimmedar Shehri aspire to achieve the above mentioned Long term and Short term goals through the following strategies:

• Organizing regular fund raising events to support our initiatives and create a sense of awareness amongst the general public and snap them out of their indifference.

• Implementation of creative initiatives that go in line with the goals, mission and overall objectives.

• Having various celebrities endorse Zimmedar Shehri and give workshops and lectures in various localities, schools and colleges on issues related to the youth of Pakistan and the society in general with focus on importance of education and understanding.

• Having volunteers take the responsibility of teaching children out on the roads, in collaboration with existing education advocacy groups or youth networks such as Teach for Pakistan, VEFA, etc. This could be once or twice a week, basic lessons in Moral issues, Basic English, Math and Science and Art, etc. and could utilize the existing member base of Zimmedar Shehri who volunteer to spread knowledge and awareness to deprived children belonging to marginalized classes.

CREATIVE INITIATIVES

We, the Responsible Citizens – Zimmedar Shehri believe that creative initiatives will bring about change in a more effective manner through unconventional mediums such as art, music and community projects.

This could be done in the following ways:

• Visiting schools and colleges and asking students to take an interest in the problems faced in the area surrounding their school/colleges/home and create an environment where citizens feel they have a say in community matters. Having social dialogues with students and encouraging teachers to hold extra classes on moral and environmental issues as these are the vital aspects of the way of life.

• Organizing Community art projects by involving children and young people from different areas to engage them in creating art made from trash and recycled items. Students from Art colleges such as the National College of Arts, Beacon House University, and Indus Valley School Karachi can volunteer to arrange community events in their areas.

• The community art work – when finished – can be exhibited and auctioned and the money raised can go to charity and to organize similar projects which will help bring the youth and all citizens together.

• Seminars will be arranged where medical experts will come to discuss matters relating to hygiene and diseases that spread from sanitation problems. People from slums and villages will be invited to attend these seminars and will be encouraged to participate and learn. Volunteers will also go to small government institutions or rural area schools to give lectures on the same subject and train them to spread the message.

• Carnivals and field trips will be arranged for kids to historical or public places and the focus will be on showing them how littering pollutes the environment and destroys the beauty of our country. Creative tasks will be given to them so that learning and fun can take place at the same time.

• The creative group of Responsible Citizens will come up with ideas to make and shoot Public Service Messages for different news channels to target the kids and youth. These public service messages will be in line with our main goals and objectives of spreading awareness and will be spread through news channels as well as youth channels etc.
